Safeguarding

At Clifton Primary School, keeping children safe is at the heart of everything we do. We want every child to feel safe, secure and cared for so that they can learn, thrive and enjoy their time at school.

Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility, and we know that children are best supported when school and families work together. We value open and trusting relationships with our parents and carers and encourage families to speak to us whenever they have a concern, however small it may seem. By sharing information and working in partnership, we can make sure that children receive the right support at the right time.

Our staff are trained to recognise and respond to safeguarding concerns and follow clear procedures to protect children. Where necessary, we also work closely with other professionals and services to ensure that the needs and welfare of every child remain our highest priority.

Our Safeguarding Team

Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. All members of staff at Clifton are trained to recognise and respond to safeguarding concerns. Our Designated Safeguarding Team has additional training and responsibility for leading safeguarding across the school.

Information for Children

What should I do if I am worried about myself or someone else?
If you are worried about something that has happened to you, a friend or someone in your family, you should always tell an adult you trust. This could be your teacher, another member of staff or one of our safeguarding team. You will be listened to and taken seriously.

What if I don't know who to talk to?
You can speak to any adult in school. You do not have to wait to find a particular person. If something is making you feel unsafe, worried, frightened or uncomfortable, tell an adult as soon as you can.

What if I am worried about something outside school?
You can still talk to us. Sometimes children have worries about things happening at home, in their community or online. Our job is to help keep you safe, wherever your worry comes from.

What if I am worried about someone in my family?
Adults sometimes need help too. If you are worried about a parent, carer or another member of your family, you can talk to an adult in school. We can help you and your family find the right support.

What if I see something unsafe in school?
If you notice something that you think could hurt someone, or you see something happening that doesn't feel right, tell an adult straight away. Everyone at Clifton has a part to play in keeping our school safe.

Remember: You will never be in trouble for telling an adult about something that is worrying you. If you are not sure whether something is important enough to tell us, tell us anyway.

Talk PANTs

At Clifton, we teach children how to keep themselves safe in an age-appropriate and reassuring way. Talk PANTS, developed by the NSPCC, helps children understand that their body belongs to them, that they have the right to say no, and that they should always speak to a trusted adult if something makes them feel worried or uncomfortable.

The PANTS rules give children simple, memorable messages about privacy, appropriate and inappropriate touch, and the importance of talking about their worries. We encourage families to reinforce these messages at home so that children hear the same clear messages about keeping safe both at school and at home.

Worried about a Child?

If you are worried about the safety or wellbeing of a child, please speak to us. You do not need to be certain that something is wrong before sharing a concern.

During the school day, you can contact the school and ask to speak to a member of our Safeguarding Team. Please make it clear that you are contacting us about a safeguarding concern so that we can respond appropriately.

If you believe a child is in immediate danger, call 999.

If you have concerns about a child outside school hours, or feel that a child or family needs additional support, you can contact Ealing Children's Integrated Response Service (ECIRS) directly.

Preventing Radicalisation and Extremism

As part of our safeguarding responsibilities, Clifton takes appropriate steps to protect children from the risks of radicalisation and extremism. Staff receive appropriate safeguarding training and children are supported to develop the knowledge and confidence to recognise risks, make safe choices and respect others.
