Mental Health and Wellbeing

At Clifton, we believe that children's mental health and emotional wellbeing are an important part of helping them to thrive. We want children to feel safe, valued and understood, and to develop the confidence and resilience they need to manage challenges both now and in the future.

Supporting wellbeing is part of everyday life at Clifton. Through our curriculum, relationships, routines and wider experiences, we help children to understand and talk about their emotions, build positive relationships, develop healthy ways of coping with difficult feelings and recognise when they may need help.

We know that every child will experience worries, setbacks and difficult emotions at different points in their lives. Our aim is not to remove every challenge, but to help children develop the skills and strategies to understand their feelings, respond to difficulties and know that it is always okay to ask for support.

Our staff know our children well and are alert to changes that may indicate a child needs additional help. Where a child requires further support, we work closely with the child and their family and, where appropriate, draw upon our Inclusion Team, therapeutic support and external professionals.

Most importantly, we want every child at Clifton to know that they do not have to manage their worries alone. There are trusted adults throughout the school who will listen, take their concerns seriously and help them to get the support they need.
