The Nest - Our Inclusion Base

At Clifton Primary School, we believe that every child deserves a high-quality, inclusive education where they feel valued, supported and able to achieve their full potential.
The Nest is our dedicated inclusion base, providing additional targeted and specialist support for pupils whose individual needs require provision beyond what is ordinarily available within the mainstream classroom.
The Nest is an important part of our whole-school approach to inclusion and reflects our ethos of ‘Aspire to Achieve’, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to succeed.
How Does The Nest Support Pupils?
The Nest provides a nurturing, supportive and appropriately adapted environment where pupils can access provision tailored to their individual needs.
Depending on the needs of the child, this may include:
-
Targeted interventions to support learning and development.
-
Specialist teaching and individually adapted learning programmes.
-
Support with communication, interaction and social development.
-
Opportunities for sensory regulation and emotional wellbeing.
-
Support to develop confidence, independence and readiness for learning.
Some children may access The Nest for short, focused sessions, while others may benefit from more regular or longer-term specialist provision.
A Whole-School Approach to Inclusion
At Clifton, we believe that every child belongs to their mainstream class and should have opportunities to learn, play and develop alongside their peers wherever appropriate.
The Nest is not an alternative classroom for all pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Instead, it complements the teaching and support provided within mainstream classrooms.
Class teachers remain responsible for their pupils' education, including planning, adapting teaching, assessing progress and ensuring access to an ambitious curriculum.
Our aim is always to maximise each child's participation in mainstream school life, while recognising that some pupils benefit from additional or specialist provision to meet their needs.
How Is Access to The Nest Decided?
Access to The Nest is carefully considered according to each pupil's individual needs, rather than simply whether they have an identified special educational need or an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
Where additional provision is required, our Inclusion Team works closely with class teachers, parents and carers, and other professionals where appropriate, to identify the most suitable support.
Any provision within The Nest is planned with clear intended outcomes and regularly reviewed to ensure it continues to meet the pupil's needs and supports their wider education.
Working Together
We recognise that strong partnerships between school and home are essential to supporting children with additional needs.
If you would like to find out more about The Nest or discuss your child's individual needs, please contact Miss Baljinder Barum, Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion and SENDCo, through the school office.
At Clifton, inclusion is everyone's responsibility, and we are committed to ensuring that every child feels a sense of belonging, experiences success and is supported to aspire and achieve.
